Biohacking Tools and Benefits

Throughout this journey I’ve come across many useful tools that I will probably use indefinitely. I use these pretty consistently, with some breaks here and there. The list is below along with benefits of each.

PEMF- This is known as Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. PEMF sends bursts of low-level magnetic frequencies directly into the body. It is helpful for pain, circulation, muscle relaxation, inflammation, and recovery. The PEMF mat I use is Higher Dose. I also use Bemer when I go to biohacking gyms.

Sauna- Sweat is so important, especially when you are dealing with a toxic overload issue. When I say Sauna, I don’t mean just any Sauna. Far Infrared is where it’s at. This technology heats you from the inside out and not only gets rid of toxins, but it reduces inflammation and boosts immunity among a lot more. I typically go 2x a week but will soon be getting my own Relax Sauna or Therasage so I can do it more often. If someone has trouble detoxing or doesn’t sweat easily (clogged lymph), I wouldn’t recommend going for the full 30-40 minutes the first time. This is something that needs to be worked up in tolerance.

Grounding- It is as it sounds. Grounding is taking off your shoes and standing barefoot in the grass or dirt. It can reduce anxiety, reduce inflammation and reconnect us with nature. Grounding is also a good way to offset effects of EMFs. There is a lot of science surrounding the benefits of Grounding. You can find more info here: https://www.myglobalviewpoint.com/benefits-of-grounding/

Castor Oil Pack- Love these! They are so comforting and I usually place mine over my liver area for 1-2 hours one or two times per week. Queen of Thrones is the best brand I have found and I have used for them more than a year. This is a non invasive method to promote the parasympathetic nervous system. And when relaxed, your body can heal.

Sunlight- Every morning I get outside and either sit in the sun or walk my dog first thing after getting up. This is beneficial for the circadian rhythm and the sun is so healing for our cells. I know I am fortunate to have sunshine almost daily where I live but just getting outside in the morning no matter how gloomy it is can help. There are also other ways to get the benefits of sunlight in areas of dreary weather such as a UVB lamp.

Dry Brushing- This is something I’ve been doing for a while. Almost daily I will dry brush thoroughly before getting in the shower. This is beneficial for the lymphatic system, to get waste moving through your system. Lymph often gets stagnant when dealing with toxin back up. Here is a video about how to dry brush that my Physical Therapy center put together: Click Here https://www.rehabandrevive.com/post-1/the-benefits-of-lymphatic-dry-brushing

Daily movement- I will do a short dance session, yoga, go to a Pilates class or jump on the trampoline (rebounding). Daily movement is so important. I used to think of myself as too fragile to move. I stopped working out around the time my symptoms were at their height and stopped for almost two years. With the work I’ve been doing retraining my brain I have been able to get back into it. I’m not running like I was before but I can do short workouts with ease. I also really enjoy KINRGY, as it combines dance fitness and energy healing into one and feels so good when I do it. I learned of it at a retreat I went to and was so impressed!

Even Sal likes to get in on the rebounding action!

Instant mood elevation- Recently I realized there was a reason that certain songs just kept popping in my head. When I would play them I noticed my mood would instantly elevate. Sometimes into love, sometimes into gratitude, and sometimes bringing me to tears. And I don’t mean playing a song in the background. I stop what I’m doing, play the song, and move how my body wants to. Sometimes that brings up a somatic experience where I will cry or shake and it feels so soothing to my nervous system. Lately I’ve been really into Whitney Houston’s Higher Love and playing that on repeat.

Red Light- This is great! I have my own red light by PlatinumLED that I use most days and have also used photobiomodulation beds at biohacking gyms. Red light is great for inflammation and can also help the gut! I’ll do it for 10-20 minutes most days.

Cold Plunge- Still working my way into this one. My Physical Therapist opened one at his office and I’ve tried it a few times. I chickened out and cancelled my Plunge session the last time so I’m thinking of giving it a go again. Cold Plunge is amazing for the immune system and circulation of blood to organs. It’s just SO cold!

Air Purifiers- Along the lines of bio-hacking, I am also a big advocate of using air purifiers. Regardless of my mold struggles, I have learned how toxic indoor air can be. I personally have air purifiers in every room of the house. The top ones I recommend are: Air Doctor, IQ Air, Alen Air, Vollara, and Austin Air.  We have all of these except for the Austin Air and only because we ran out of rooms to put them in. The Air Doctor is the most affordable of the bunch but they all are very helpful.
